‘Madam Secretary’ season 2 spoilers: Who will Morgan Freeman play?

MadamBack during CBS’ presentation at TCA earlier this month, we reported that “Madam Secretary” executive producer Morgan Freeman was going to be coming on the show in a very different capacity: As an actor.

Now, we have at least a little bit more insight into just who he is going to play. According to Entertainment Weekly, Freeman will be a Supreme Court judge in the premiere, and while there is not too much else known about him beyond that, this is still nice news to know just from the standpoint of knowing how important he will be to the story. Judges are not the sort of character who turn up on a show without purpose.

There is obviously an added incentive for Freeman to appear on “Madam Secretary” given his producer credit. This gives him a chance to tackle some more challenge material for sure, but at the same time, it may bring a little more buzz to a series that has not exactly been much of a ratings powerhouse in the time in which it has been on the air. It does get a nice upscale audience, but it struggles more when it comes to the 18-49 demographic.

New episodes of “Madam Secretary” will officially premiere starting in early October; it would be premiering on September 27, but CBS is giving the first Sunday of the fall season to the “CSI” two-hour series finale, that way they can give this show some sort of proper ending.
