Ratings: ‘Bachelor in Paradise 2’ posts more solid numbers, renewal seems almost assured

BP -For those wondering whether or not we are going to get a season 3 of “Bachelor in Paradise,” the one thing we can tell you right now is that it seems likely … very likely.

Last night, the trainwreck-of-a-reality-show posted a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic (otherwise known as the most important one), which kept the show at its best rating to date in that measure. It still lost to NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” (1.8), but that’s not really something to frown over given that this is one of the most-popular series of the summer at this point. “Ninja Warrior” has already been confirmed to be coming back for another season.

So why are so many people checking out “Bachelor in Paradise” this year? There’s not too much else on for one, and we feel like another part of it is mostly just that it’s easy, disposable summer entertainment. It’s certainly sleazy, but we don’t get the sense that anyone is as obsessed with hating on the contestants via social media as they were during Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season of “The Bachelorette” (or maybe that’s just our read on it).

We’re not as sure on the fate of the aftershow “After Paradise,” which drew just a 0.8 even though there is a definitely trainwreck quality to this courtesy of all the Twitter feuds that go on right in the middle of the show, really for just about all of America to see. The advantage of it is that it does further establish a brand, it could get more ratings over time, and it probably costs almost nothing to make.
