‘Under the Dome’ season 3 continues to dominate DVR ratings, complicates possible renewal

If you look at the live ratings alone for a show like CBS’ “Under the Dome,” it would be pretty easy to jump to the assumption that this is a show that probably does not have that much of a future on CBS. Then, you also look at some of the ratings via DVR, and they make matters a little bit harder to figure out.

The live+7 data for the week of July 27 was just compiled by the wizards over at TVbythenumbers, and it shows that the July 30 episode of the series surged from a 1.0 in the live ratings to a 1.9 with the DVR data included. That’s almost a jump of 100%, and that is both the largest increase of any summer show for the week and also the second-biggest gain in terms of percentage. (“Aquarius” went up from a 0.2 to a 0.5, but it had almost nowhere to go but up.)

We’ve heard from CBS itself that the dome is coming down at the end of the summer, and that could allow for an argument that this season should mark the end of the road. While wouldn’t it be? Well, you’ve got these DVR ratings, and then also a great deal with Amazon that brings in the show some other cash.

For now, the network is not confirming one way or another what the future of the show will be, so our advice for now is to take a wait-and-see approach. Also, watch live if you want to save the show. That’s what really matters more than anything else.
