‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Michelle Dockery reflects on last days filming
The sixth season of “Downton Abbey” is closing the curtain on filming, and now comes the other arduous part of the process: For viewers it is waiting for the series to air, and for the cast it is trying to come to grips with the fact that this award-winning and life-changing series is over. Many of these actors are big names thanks to this show, and they’ve made many great friendships.
We are pretty sure that we are going to hear many wonderful stories over the next few weeks about how cast members are saying goodbye, but we do think that what Michelle Dockery told “Access Hollywood” recently on the subject is pretty much perfect:
“We had the last day at Highclere a couple of weeks ago. It just felt weird … It was almost like a pressure to cry, and I didn’t really know how I was going to feel. Laura Carmichael, she had finished her scenes for the day but had stuck around [until the end], the moment that the director yelled ‘cut,’ it wasn’t our house anymore. It just felt so weird and then Laura and I [looked over] … and two over our longest-standing crew members were just holding each other. The two grips were gripping each other literally … They were just hugging for like thirty seconds, a big man-hug! And Laura and I just went.
“She took my hand, and she said ‘let’s walk through the rooms,’ so we went through the library and through the drawing room and went out onto the lawn and sat onto Matthew’s bench. We were just in pieces.”
