‘The Strain’ season 3 official; FX announces renewal on TCA day

FX -Obviously, FX is still happy that audiences are flocking to “The Strain,” and they have now as of today made the news official that the series is coming back for a third season. The ratings are still great enough to make this happen, and we know that executive producers Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse want the show to be somewhere between three and five seasons. In doing this, they feel like they can do the greatest amount of justice to the source material.

In a statement on Friday, FX Networks president of original programming Eric Schrier had the following to say:

“Guillermo and Carlton have delivered two thrilling seasons of The Strain that are captivating and visually arresting, doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans’ high expectations in the process. We’re excited to see them carry this powerful story into a third season on FX.”

The fact that the show has continued some element of commercial success today is very much a good thing, and it is also something that it really needs given that this show does not get the same level of attention from the press or from awards season as some others on the network. It airs at an unusual time for FX in Sunday nights, but it satisfies the hunger for people wanting more solid genre entertainment. It’s gritty, at times gross, but also at times very entertaining.

Season 2 of the series is currently airing; as for season 3, expect it to air next summer.
