Fox News wins big with Presidential debate featuring Donald Trump, others

Fox NewsWe knew that there would be attention surrounding the GOP Presidential debate on Fox News Thursday night, but who knew it was going to deliver the sort of earth-shattering ratings that it did?

Last night’s debate drew a total of 24 million viewers to the cable news network, making this not only the biggest primary debate in television history, but also the biggest cable news telecast ever. We don’t believe that all of these people were there to watch Scott Walker and Marco Rubio, either.

We’re not talking about politics or who anyone is voting for or even who we like and don’t like; the reality here is that Donald Trump was the ratings draw. You have an extremely confident billionaire running for public office who says what he thinks, is controversial, and has plenty of fans and detractors alike. At this stage in the race, he may be the most polarizing candidate we’ve seen. There was naturally an intense curiosity to see how this debate would be handled, and it was a mess at times in the way you would expect with this many candidates and this many strong opinions.

We do think that the viewer curiosity will die down watching these debates, at least until we get to the part where Trump (if he ends up being the Republican candidate, which he is heavily favored right now to) ends up facing off against the Democratic nominee for President in some of those showdowns. There are many more debates to be had, but if Trump’s lead continues to be strong we wonder just how many of them he will feel the need to attend.

We’re not going to cover the political side of things for this election season, but we will of course be around to check out the ratings. If you want to get some further news on everything we cover sent over to you, be sure to sign up today for our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Fox News.)
