‘Criminal Minds’ season 11: Paget Brewster considered return
While “Criminal Minds” seems to be figuring out how to handle the exit of Jennifer Love Hewitt and the maternity leave of AJ Cook, at one point they at least thought about bringing back a longtime fan favorite into the mix once again: Paget Brewster. Emily is a huge part of the series’ history, and we know that it is someone that fans would want to see again. Paget also still has a good relationship with the cast and the show creators, so the interest seems to be there in her giving the show another go.
So what is the problem that kept it from happening? As it turns out, there is really a rather simple answer as to why it didn’t happen: Scheduling. Paget was at Fox’s TCA Summer Press Tour event in order to promote her new role in “Grandfathered,” and she makes it clear (per TVLine) that she was at one point considering making a return for season 11 of the crime drama. The problem is that because of filming schedules, she was not able to make it happen:
“I was hoping to jump in and do a couple [of episodes] … But it didn’t work out, time-wise.”
The show has figured out still a way to press forward without Cook’s JJ for at least a little while. Aisha Tyler is coming aboard for a recurring role, and we know that Marisol Nichols (recently of “NCIS”) is going to be guest-starring on at least an early episode. The new season of “Criminal Minds” is going to air starting on Wednesday, September 30.
