Arby’s airs new ad on penultimate ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,’ shows they’re good sports

The Daily Show with Jon StewartSure, there are many institutions that have taken it on the chin from Jon Stewart over the years on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” (Republicans, Fox News, people who eat pizza with a fork), but one company may have been the brunt of more jokes than any of them on a regular basis: Arby’s. For some reason, Jon really had it out for the fast-food giant, mocking their food and making jokes about what he believes are the side effects.

Well, in proving that they subscribe to the “any publicity is good publicity” model of business, Arby’s decided tonight to air an ad during the penultimate episode of the show that, while not mentioning Jon’s full name, is a clear reference to him leaving the show. They also put a message on Twitter that more directly referenced the comic and the long running in-joke.

There’s really not too much else to say here other than good job on Arby’s part for keeping themselves aware of the tone of the show lately, which even included recently a “looking back” package that threw their name out there perhaps more than almost any other company as the show reflected on his “corporate sponsors.”

We have to admit that we always found it complete random that Arby’s was chosen for the bit, mostly because it is not typically the first fast-food chain you think of when you make some of the sort of jokes that Jon has made. Then again, that may be part of the humor of it all.

We’ll be back tomorrow to cover Jon’s final show at length, but for now let us know in the comments what you think about Arby’s big plan here. Also, you can sign up here to get some other TV updates on everything we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Comedy Central.)
