‘Black Sails’ season 4 official; pirate drama renewed by Starz before season 3 premiere
With a series like “Black Sails,” Starz recognizes that they have a little more of a predicament than with some of the other ones that they have on the schedule. They are not really in such a position here that they can renew the show after all of the current season airs. Production takes place halfway across the world, and requires a lot of time to film and edit to create the perfect visual picture.
Therefore, we’re not too surprised that the network took advantage of the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour today to confirm that there will be a fourth season premiering at some point in 2017. Season 3 is not even going to premiere until early 2016. The play for the new season is to introduce Blackbeard (played by Ray Stevenson), and it will be fascinating to see just how much of him is incorporated into the show moving forward.
While this is not necessarily the buzziest series that Starz has to offer, it has shown to be a solid entry in their lineup, and one of those shows with a dedicated fan base that slips somewhat under the radar. Still, there is more of an upside here with it than many people even realize. “Black Sails” could be benefited by the rise in Starz as a network over the past year, with “Outlander” becoming a commercial smash and with “Power” proving to be the surprise of the summer courtesy of its impressive ratings gains. We’re still shocked that this show is not getting more attention than it is.
We’ll hopefully have some other news related to “Black Sails” as time passes, but for now head over here to get some other news on Blackbeard.
