NBC really wants Beyonce in ‘The Wiz’ with Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah

NBCWhile “Peter Pan Live!” drew some decent ratings for NBC last year, the network has clearly realized what one of their biggest problems with the musical was: Not enough star power. Allison Williams and Christopher Walken are well-known, but there was not the same curiosity to see them act and perform in the way that there was with Carrie Underwood in “The Sound of Music Live!” back in 2015.

Therefore, clearly the network is working to correct this for “The Wiz” before it airs this December.. They have already snatched up some big-name talent for the show in Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige, who Entertainment Weekly claims will be playing the parts of The Wiz and the Wicked Witch of the West. Now, they’re going after … Beyonce?

Despite some claims that the pop megastar has signed on to appear as Glinda the Good Witch in the musical, the aforementioned publication claims that she has actually been given two separate offers and turned them both down. To be fair, what’s the incentive for Beyonce to do this? Obviously there are some good ratings associated with this if she wants them, but she’s already had the acting bug and tried that out. Also, she has enough money to buy with Jay-Z a New York apartment made entirely of gold. These live musicals are much more of a commitment time-wise than anyone would realize, with there being months of preparation that goes into making them work.

Sure, it is possible that somewhere down the line Beyonce could get an offer that is appetizing enough for her to get on board, but for now nothing is confirmed.
