‘Empire’ season 2 spoilers: Pop star Becky G to appear

The guest cast for “Empire” season 2 just continues to expand.

According to series star Bryshere Y. Gray, pop singer Becky G is poised to make some sort of appearance in the episodes coming up this fall, though details on her role have not been made clear as of yet. Given that we know that almost everyone in music probably wants some sort of role on this show at the moment, we figure that Becky has to be feeling pretty great about this gig.

For the most part, we have been far from bullish on the prospects of getting big-name guest stars on this show, since we feel like they can become a distraction. For example, is anyone going to be able to see someone like Chris Rock without picturing him as the legendary comic? We had a little trouble last year with Courtney Love, given that this was a music-centric role and we kept imagining ourselves in a time machine to her musical heyday. Becky G is not extremely well-known yet to older viewers, so we imagine that this will not be too much of a problem. (We’re kind of speaking out of both sides of our mouth here, given that despite our concerns, we’re still glad to see Rock just because we love him.)

The second season of “Empire” premieres on September 23, and some other guest stars signed on at the moment include Marisa Tomei, Kelly Rowland, Lenny Kravitz, and Adam Rodriguez as a potential new love interest to Cookie Lyon. Things are going to go down in a big way!
