Caitlyn Jenner’s ‘I Am Cait’ series has solid debut ratings

I Am Cait -We had a feeling that Caitlyn Jenner’s E! docuseries “I Am Cait” would get off to a decent start in the ratings, but we admit that some of our own commercial expectations were bumped up somewhat after seeing how much buzz the show was getting on Twitter the night of the premiere.

As of right now, the best way to describe the premiere ratings is “very good.” The show drew around 2.7 million viewers, with more than half coming from the coveted 18-49 demographic. Given that Caitlyn is 65 years old, it is rare to draw that many young viewers, but there there has been so much support around Caitlyn as well as a loved for the Kardashian family as a whole that it makes sense that fans would want to tune in. This number is up slightly from many past iterations of the Karadashian franchise on E!, but we expected the numbers to be somewhere closer to 4 million given the sort of buzz that we have seen about her story online.

With all of this being said, we have a feeling that “I Am Cait” is going to hold up very well over time. Reviews for the series have been for the most part positive, with even those who have spoken out against “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” praising Jenner heavily for her bravery and taking on what has to be a pretty enormous challenge in her life. Also, the show exposed many transgender issues that are not altogether familiar for many Americans out there, which will help people have a better understanding instead of being in the dark.

There are still seven more episodes of this docu-series still to air this summer, and they will continue to air in the one-hour format until we reach the end … at least for now. There is no word yet on the show’s long-term future.
