‘Homeland’ season 5, ‘The Affair’ season 2 premiere dates confirmed by Showtime
Wondering when some of Showtime’s most critically-acclaimed series are coming on the air? Well, we’ve managed to get a quick answer: Sunday, October 4. “Homeland” will kick things off with its fifth season at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, and it will be followed by “The Affair” presumably.
The only surprise we could say is here is that “Homeland” is going to only get a one-hour premiere this year, which we feel is actually more of a show of confidence in the series. In giving the show last time such a large chunk of time to kick off the story last year, we feel for the most part like what Showtime was trying to do was ultimately find a way to ensure that viewers got hooked on what was considered for the most part a comeback season for the show. There is a little less pressure now after all of the Emmy nominations the show received for the fourth season. “The Affair,” meanwhile, is coming off of an interesting trajectory here in which it received a ton of attention at the Golden Globes, and yet was snubbed hard by the Emmys. Maybe recency bias helped it with the Globes to a certain extent, but this is not a phenomenon we tend to experience often.
As for whether or not Showtime will issue some free previews for these two shows anytime soon, the answer is “likely.” The network allowed viewers to watch the premiere episodes on YouTube, and we imagine that trend will probably continue. It is a good way to get viewers hooked enough so that they potentially want to subscribe.
