‘Supergirl’ poster features Melissa Benoist flying high

CBS really wants as many people watching “Supergirl” as humanly possible. You’re not going to get more evidence of that than all of the constant promotional material that they are putting out, including the new poster below featuring star Melissa Benoist front and center.

If we are being honest, we actually like the image attached here at the top of the article more so than the poster below (first posted by Entertainment Weekly), mostly because this one feels at least to us a little more epic in scale. Also, for some reason the perspective on the poster is a little bothersome. It makes one of Kara’s arms look extra extended a la Mr. Fantastic, and the House Zor-El Coat of Arms seems almost like it is off-center on her outfit.

Yes, minor complaints. It’s still a pretty good poster for the most part since it really focuses on what matters most: Supergirl herself. Melissa Benoist’s character is going to have to carry this show in the early going before we start to know some of the other people. This is a familiar struggle that both “Arrow” and “The Flash” also faced, though we admit that each one of those shows benefited from having another character we really liked right away in John Diggle and Harrison Wells. We haven’t gotten too attached to anyone else on “Supergirl” yet.

This show will air Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern once it settles in to its normal timeslot, and its biggest adversary is going to be singers on “The Voice,” dancers via “Dancing with the Stars,” and ironically “Gotham” on Fox. The movies have Batman v. Superman, and on TV we’ve got Supergirl v. Jim Gordon. Yet, we’ve enjoyed most DC shows more so far than any recent superhero movie.
