‘The Bastard Executioner’ video: A wall full of weapons

Executioner -Is FX giving “The Bastard Executioner” the “American Horror Story” treatment? It seems that way, based on how the network is promoting it already. We’re used to the Ryan Murphy series getting a series of micro-promos in the weeks leading up to its premiere, and tonight we received the second sneak peek for Kurt Sutter’s “Sons of Anarchy” adaptation in the past seven days.

This one is far less of a teaser trailer than the first, since what we are really looking at here is a series full of images. The big theme to take away from it above all else is the juxtaposition between religion, something that we tend to think of more as holy and revered, and then also violence and death. In the Middle Ages, these two things were hardly separated at all. The color red obviously plays a major role in this, as well; it is foreboding, and it is almost as if the show is warning us that a bloodbath is coming later this fall.

The cast for the show includes Lee Jones as the title character alongside Katey Sagal, Stephen Moyer, Sutter in an acting role, and many more. We imagine that in a matter of weeks, FX will narrow down an exact premiere date.

For now, the network can at least celebrate having a heck of a roster of programming coming up in the months ahead. You’ve of course got “American Horror Story: Hotel,” but do not forget about the brilliant “Fargo,” either.
