‘The Muppets’ video: Watch full Comic-Con panel (and prepare to smile)
There were many cool panels that took place over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, but even still few bring everything to the table that we get from “The Muppets.” There’s just something magical that comes from this show, and in some ways it’s difficult to describe. It’s nostalgic, it’s witty, and it is super-smart and funny. There’s a natural humor here that you don’t often get from other shows, especially in that really anyone can watch and enjoy no matter their age or background.
The reason that this panel (which you can see below) is probably one of our favorites from the entire weekend is because ABC and the show’s executive producers in Bill Prady, Bob Kushell, and Randall Einhorn seemed to understand is that while it can be cool sometimes to see new footage, what people really hope to see at this sort of event is an experience. They want to go home and brad to their friends that they saw something really cool that few get a chance to be a part of this. It is what made it so fascinating to see performers like Bill Barretta (Pepe the King Prawn). Dave Goelz (Gonzo), Steve Whitmire (Kermit, Rizzo) and Eric Jacobson (Fozzie Ber, Miss Piggy) actually perform as their characters in a way they do not do often.
You’re going to laugh often watching some of these characters and puppeteers interact, and you also learn a little more about how Prady (who worked in the Muppet world long before “The Big Bang Theory”) wanted to make this show for a long time, and why Jim Henson would want to make fun of shows like “The Office.”
“The Muppets” will air on ABC Tuesday nights, and you can head over here to watch the full trailer if you haven’t already. Also, be sure to sign up here to get some other TV scoop on all we cover, sent right to you via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ABC.)
