‘The Bastard Executioner’: FX releases first promo for Kurt Sutter’s ‘Sons of Anarchy’ follow-up

Executioner -We promised that there would be a new video teaser for “The Bastard Executioner” that aired tonight during / after the premiere of “The Strain,” and FX did not disappoint. While this may only be thirty seconds, this first look gives you a quick window into what you can expect from Kurt Sutter’s long-awaited follow-up to “Sons of Anarchy.”

Visually, this video (which you can see below, via The Hollywood Reporter) is stunning. It gives you a sense both of the natural beauty of Wales and some of its landmarks, populated as well with the show’s own set. So often we feel like we associate the country these days with “Doctor Who” as a filming location, but there is so much more historically that the land has to offer up, and it is still so unknown to many Americans espcially.

Given the short span of the preview, there is not much time to get to specific matters pertaining to the story. To help the uninitiated, take a look at the official logline for the series below:

“A period drama, The Bastard Executioner tells the story of a warrior knight in King Edward I’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all.”

The cast for the series includes Lee Jones as the warrior knight-turned executioner, and you also have appearing “True Blood” alumni Stephen Moyer, “Sons of Anarchy” alum Katey Sagal, Sutter himself, and many others.

For now, the only premiere date listed is “fall,” and we’ll have more news on that as we hear it. For now, let’s just revel in what is a thrilling and intense first look at what could be a potential hit for FX.
