‘True Detective’ season 2, episode 5 preview: Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, aftermath in ‘Other Lives’

HBO logoTrue Detective” has now made it to the halfway point of its eight-episode second season, and at the moment they are definitely doing a good job of continuing one particular habit: Being as mysterious as humanly possible. They are not revealing much in the way of details at all about next week’s new episode, at least in the form of an advanced synopsis. Why is that? Maybe they feel for some reason like that would be too easy.

Nothing is altogether easy for some of these characters going into the next new episode, and we at least know that much after tonight’s violent shootout. The next episode is entitled “Other Lives,” and we like to think that it is named in such a way as to symbolize that there are other lives and other people who are at stake here. These people will continue to matter in their own way on the series moving forward.

The promo below teases some of that, and opens the floodgates ever-so-slightly on news when it comes to the Caspere investigation. These people may have aspirations of justice, but what we are seeing here for the most part is proof that the actions that we saw tonight are not going to dissipate. That is good news for the sake of realism, which is something the show has at times lacked this season.

We’ll have some more news related to the series soon, so be on the lookout for that. As of right now, though, Rachel McAdams and Colin Farrell’s Ani and Ray have a lot to watch out for.
