‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: Will you meet Merida early?

“Once Upon a Time” continues to find a variety of fun ways to surprise us! We knew about the Dark Swan, Camelot, and a possible new savior even before the San Diego Comic-Con panel this weekend, but we have to admit that Merida was nowhere on our radar. We assumed that King Arthur and Guinevere would be enough in the realm of new characters for the show, and they really were not going to consider adding anyone else to the mix.

Well, we were wrong about that. You can see the teaser video for the role below, which features Amy Manson front and center as the famed archer. This is a chance for the series to incorporate another strong, interesting female character into the show, and someone who will help to give the good guys a certain presence with Emma potentially teetering on the side of evil.

The cast told TVLine yesterday that you will see Merida early on in the fifth season, but our question is simple: Where will you see her? This looks to be the Enchanted Forest in the promo, but what we’ve learned from past Comic-Cons is that these videos are not necessarily canon. We’re not seeing much of the Forest on the show these days…

If nothing else, we are glad that we’ve got another cool character from Disney lore on the show, even if we do still wish that we had something more when it comes to Cinderella, Red, Dr. Whale, or some other longtime characters.
