‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 may not be the last; Ian Somerhalder – Chris Wood fun
While the next season of “The Vampire Diaries” may be the first one that does not feature Elena Gilbert, it does not look like it will be the only one, at least based on what we heard at the show’s official San Diego Comic-Con panel today. This is the first time that we’ve really seen the entire cast and producers together since the end of season 6, and there was some fun to be had out of all of this.
Executive producer Julie Plec (through a hoarse voice) confirmed that there are not plans to make season 7 the last one for the series, though we also imagine that they are not firmly in control of this. Much of it could depend on the ratings.
What we will say for now is that we like some of the plans that the show has to continue its run for the time being. They seem to be well aware that to keep things going, we need to see more of the old Damon from the early seasons to bring some of that edge back. It’s hard to lose Elena, but this opens the door to a variety of new storytelling possibilities and mythology to enter the picture. The show needs to freshen up if it wants a chance at staying relevant.
The main event may be the video below (via BuzzFeed), which hilariously features at the end Ian Somerhalder and Chris Wood recreating a famous Damon / Elena rain kiss from early on the series’ run. Hats off to the guys for being so game on this.
