‘The Simpsons’ spoilers: Kate McKinnon to guest star; plus, ‘Boyhood’ spoof, ‘Futurama’ speculation
“The Simpsons” held a panel at Comic-Con today, and for those of you who have enjoyed the animated comedy for decades, it sounds like somehow the writers still do have some plans for how to continue to make this show a success.
For one, the show is still trying to think up some new ideas to play around. An upcoming episode airing during the holiday season is going to feature some nods to the movie “Boyhood,” where Nancy Cartwright has to voice Bart Simpson through a variety of different ages. There’s also going to be some more guest stars including the main four female characters from “Girls,” Kate McKinnon of “Saturday Night Live,” Stephen Merchant, and probably a few others that the show has not addressed yet. While the series has become more reliant on bringing in big names over the past ten years or so to bolster the story, we’re not really going to complain too much about it now.
What is the most intriguing part of the panel for us are statements from Matt Groening that the show will at least consider a “Futurama”-themed episode at some point. Anything is possible with this series, and it feels like “Futurama” is still an extremely popular show in its own right, even if Fox actually canceled it a pretty long time ago and forced it to go elsewhere.
You probably already knew that Spider-Pig would be coming aboard the series for an episode; the panel also aired the recent Donald Trump spoof video, which you can see below if you haven’t already. Donald at this point is fairly low-hanging fruit, but we still found this entertaining.
