‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12 spoilers: Camilla Luddington open to Katherine Heigl return

The future -We should preface this “Grey’s Anatomy” article with somewhat of an obvious statement: It’s not really Camilla Luddington’s decision as to whether or not Katherine Heigl ever returns to “Grey’s Anatomy.” Heck, she wasn’t even around during the Izzie years on the show!

There has been hope among many fans that Heigl would appear at least in an episode or two before the end of the series, but we should be clear here that there is almost zero evidence that this will actually happen. While Katherine has expressed an openness to return, that has not been shared by show creator Shonda Rhines, who likely feels disrespected by the way in which the departure took place the first time. Earlier this year, Heigl even admitted that her chances of coming back are extremely unlikely.

So what is the connection for Luddington? It’s mostly that her character of Jo is with Alex, who of course has an extensive history with Izzie already. Luddington told TVLine that she is “nervous” already about the upcoming season, mostly because of the fact that things have been relatively good for her character and Alex throughout the past few seasons. They’ve had fights, sure, but they’ve gotten through them.

Camilla admits that a return for Izzie at this point “would be nuts,” but she’s open to it. What we find the most interesting about this interview is this: Luddington has asked whether or not her character knows about what happened with Izzie and the eggs, and she has not received an answer yet. Even if we don’t see much of Heigl, this feels like a story that really should be addressed before the end.
