‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Peter Capaldi on filming second go-around as The Doctor

Doctor Who -This has turned out to be quite a banner day for “Doctor Who.” Not only did the BBC release the first promo for the new season (watch here), but there was also a panel discussion at San Diego Comic-Con featuring stars Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, and The Master herself in Michelle Gomez.

How is this new season different? Ultimately, you can think of it as more of a deep dive into who these characters are and what sort of trouble they can get themselves into. This is something that Capaldi accentuated when talking about how being a part of this series now for an extended period of time has allowed him and the writers opportunities to be able to put his character of The Doctor on the screen: “The writers know me now and want to write for me, because Clara and the Doctor feel more in a groove [and] they’re really enjoying being the luckiest people in all of history.”

Capaldi later said that they were somewhat reckless this season in how they pursue a variety of different missions and adventures, which should be rather fun for us to watch as viewers.

For the most part, this panel just bled fun from start to finish. Capaldi talked more about the relationship with the Master, discussing how this was at one point probably a friendship that dissolved and turned into something terrible. Gomez hinted that she will have to find a new way to regroup following her defeat at the end of season 8; meanwhile, anticipate many surprises across the board when it comes to everyone from Clara to the character played by “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams.
