‘Ink Master’ exclusive: Miami Burgess talks elimination, Craig Foster and life after the show

We are still completely shocked that Miami Burgess went home on the last episode of “Ink Master”. He has been tattooing for over 20 years, he’s incredibly talented, and he handles stress better then most, but we lost him this week for doing what every tattoo artist should be doing: Giving the client exactly what they want. We found this to be a full circle moment since his apprentice, Craig Foster, went home in season 3 for the exact same thing – giving a tattoo that may not be the judges favorite, but is exactly what the client wanted.

As much as we didn’t want to see Miami leaving the competition, we were happy to have a chance to talk to this master of tattooing today. He chatted with us about his surprising elimination, the biggest challenges of being on “Ink Master”, as well as competing against Craig for the first time in their very long friendship.

CarterMatt.com: We were shocked with the judges decision to send you home – were you surprised by their decision?

I was very shocked to hear that decision!

You and Craig have known each other a long time, what was it like competing against him?

Going up against Craig from the rip was a twist I never saw coming. It was hard going up against him. I’ve never had to compete against him for the title of Ink Master. I had to look at it as a I’m in a win win situation. If I win that’s great, if I loose than I’ve done my job as being his master!

What did you find to be the most challenging part about the competition?

The time limit was the most challenge part!

How did you end up getting cast for “Ink Master”?

I got a phone call from a producer asking if I might be interested.

Have you found that your life has changed now that the show is airing?

My life has definitely changed. The amount of people from across the U.S. that have been supporting me is overwhelming. My fans/customers mean a whole lot to me. I wanted to reply to every single one of them personally after I went home on the episode. I am humbled and I just don’t know how to put it into words!

Are you rooting for Craig to win this season or is there someone else that has your vote?

I am absolutely rooting for Craig to win! It’s taken him 2 years to be able to have another shot at fixing what happened on season 3. Everyone on season 6 was a bad ass at tattooing, but there not gonna be able to stop Craig’s train from rolling through!

If someone wants to book you for a tattoo what is the best way for them to reach you?

To book an appointment I’ll be at Skinwerks Tattoo in Carrollton, GA. Phone: 678-322-8281, Email: [email protected], Twitter: Miami_Burgess, Facebook: [email protected] and Instagram: MiamiBurgess. Thank you!

A very special thanks to Miami for talking with us about his time on the show. We were really sorry to see him go and loved watching him tattoo as well as seeing his Master/Apprentice relationship with Craig. It’s always nice to see relationships like Miami and Craig standing not only the test of time, but also the stress of an environment like “Ink Master”. It’s truly inspiring and we can only hope that they will bring Miami back on a future season of the show.
