Ratings: ‘Hollywood Game Night’ proves perfect companion for ‘America’s Got Talent’

Hollywood Game Night -NBC is very lucky that they have found a gem for themselves in “Hollywood Game Night.” The show is extremely cheap to make, its prize money is really somewhat laughable compared to other game shows that are out there, and yet it can be plugged almost anywhere in the schedule and generate decent ratings.

Last night, it may have found one of its perfect companions in “America’s Got Talent.” The Jane Lynch-hosted game show drew a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic on Tuesday night, which is one of its best overall performances ever. This proves in some ways that these two shows compliment each other almost perfectly; “AGT” had one of its lowest ratings of the season in a 2.2, and there was still this sort of impressive retention rate. If this is something that continues throughout the season, we imagine this being somewhat of a permanent summer fixture from here on out.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, the news was not nearly as good. While “Zoo” held on to the majority of its premiere audience in its second week, a 1.1 (down from a 1.2) is still not very good. Sure, it is generating high total viewers, but it is the demo that matters more to advertisers.

For those wondering, “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” (0.6) is still on the air, but the only real reason why is merely because Fox doesn’t really have anything that they can plug into the schedule that will do any better in the ratings. They may as well just continue to let that play out, and then eventually move on to other things down the road.
