‘@midnight’ with Chris Hardwick renewed for season 3 by Comedy Central

You can file this probably under the “news everyone saw coming” file folder: Comedy Central is bringing back “@midnight” for a third season. This Chris Hardwick-hosted series has been a popular entry in their lineup since first premiering years ago, and it remains a big part of their late-night block alongside “The Daily Show” and now “The Nightly Show.”

Personally, one of the reasons why we’ve enjoyed this show to the extent that we have is the presence of new talent we can learn a thing or two more about. Ron Funches, Nikki Glaser, and Steve Agee are just three of the people we’ve really come to love more thanks to their participation on the show, and in turn we do think this helps their comedy careers significantly.

In a statement today, Hardwick had the following to say about coming up:

“Comedy Central has been an amazing and supportive partner for ‘@midnight’ and I cannot thank them enough … Making inappropriate jokes about Internet culture with my comedian friends is something I would do for the rest of my life if they’d let me. And this pick-up gives us the runway to tackle next year’s election, which I’m guessing will yield no shortage of social media gems.”

The challenge for “@midnight” is mostly going to be continuing to come up with new games and ideas to shake things up, but we feel like to date, they have been able to figure this one. One of the things working for them here is mostly that there are continuously people willing to embarrass themselves online. That’s a pretty big resource to draw from, and it’s renewable! You gotta celebrate that.
