‘Penny Dreadful’ season 3: Premiere date speculation, more for Josh Hartnett – Eva Green series
Tonight marks the conclusion of “Penny Dreadful” season 2, but at the same time thankfully not the conclusion of the entire series. It is not Showtime’s practice to leave you waiting long for renewals; as a matter of fact, they often tend to announce them before the current season ends. That’s what they have done here.
A third season for the drama starring Josh Hartnett and Eva Green was first ordered by the network in the middle of last month, and the biggest thing that you should know about it is that it will run for nine episodes. On the surface, this feels like somewhat an arbitrary number given that the first season ran for eight episodes, while this current season had ten. How was this number settled upon? We feel like it has mostly to do with just what felt natural both in terms of schedules and for show creator John Logan.
One thing that you always do have to remember when talking about renewals for this show is that it is a little bit different than most other shows. Like many British dramas, Logan writes the entirety of the episodes, and therefore most of the story is dictated on what he wants to do. Production will begin in Dublin this fall, and we imagine that the vast majority of the cast will all be present once again. (We’re not ruling out that one or two characters are killed off tonight.)
“Penny Dreadful” may not be Showtimes’ highest-rated series, but it does provide is a very different flair for the network, and also some fantastic performances and edge writing that they like to have as a part of their arsenal.
