ABC reviving ‘To Tell the Truth’ game show; NeNe Leakes, Betty White to star

It could happen -“To Tell the Truth” is a show that really will never get completely old, though it is a little bit different doing it now than thirty years ago. The premise of this show, which may be known to younger viewers from “Catch Me If You Can,” is seeing three people come out all claiming to be the same person, and you have to figure out through their answers who is actually the one telling the truth. There is much more face recognition now than there used to be, so these people will have to be fairly obscure that the panelists are guessing about.

According to a report from Deadline, this show has already found one of its first panelists to guess about this person’s true identity in NeNe Leakes. Meanwhile, they’ve also got on board Betty White. Both of these women are coming on after stints on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and “Hot in Cleveland,” and this may be an appropriate venue for their talents. Anthony Anderson of “black-ish” is going to be the host for the six-episode series, and there will be a third celebrity panelist that will rotate throughout the first season.

To us, perhaps the biggest surprise here is that network TV continues to hold an infatuation with game shows, even though the format has not necessarily drawn some of the biggest results over the course of the past few years. “Celebrity Family Feud” is more of the exception than the rule, and it is a little more of a well-known property than a game show whose heyday was really more than 40 years ago.

We don’t anticipate that we’ll see this series for a little while, but we’ll have some other news as it starts to come out.
