Amazon renews ‘Transparent’ for season 3, expands relationship with creator

“Transparent” has become a phenomenon on Amazon ever since the moment that it premiered, and since that time it has won a Golden Globe, and helped be a part of the nationwide transgender movement. Thanks to stories like Caitlyn Jenner and Audrey Middleton on “Big Brother” this summer, it is possible that the series is going to be able to have a bigger platform than ever before going into the second season.

One thing we do know for sure now? It’ll be getting a season 3! In a statement today, Amazon Studios vice-president Roy Price commented with the following as a part of a statement that also included news that creator Jill Soloway will have a chance to develop other projects, as well:

“Jill is truly a creative force and I’m thrilled that we will be collaborating with her additional projects in the future and on a third season of Transparent … customers will be delighted to continue the journey with Maura and the Pfefferman family.”

Ordering a season of a show so far in advance is a move that is really just reserved for some of television’s biggest critical or commercial successes, such as “Game of Thrones” or “The Big Bang Theory.” Amazon most likely recognizes that with “Transparent,” they have a platform not only for raising social awareness, but also bringing in more viewers to check out some of their other content. This is a service that really needs all the attention it can still; while they have great programming, they do not get the attention of a Netflix or some of the premium cable networks out there like HBO.
