‘Hannibal’ cancellation: Petitions, Twitter support, more of how you can save show

Hannibal -It has been close to 24 hours now since the news first broke regarding the cancellation of “Hannibal,” so in some ways, we have finally been forced to let the news settle in a little bit (even if we do not really want to). The show had a tremendous run for three years on NBC, and as we’ve said, it is really not fair to blame the network at this point. They gave this show more of a chance than probably any other broadcaster on network TV would. Also, they let it take more creative risks than we have ever seen.

As you probably know many times over now, though, the show is not dead just because NBC is letting it go. There are still many things that you can do! Trying to figure these out is the focus of this particular article.

1. WATCH LIVE – We place this in all capitals because we cannot stress enough how important it is. Wait until later to go with your friends / watch some other things that you’ve got stockpiled on your DVR. The live ratings are why NBC canceled the show, but if you can stabilize and even slightly improve it, that will help the series to find a new home. We’re not sure that another network or streaming service like Amazon will choose to pick it up until they’ve seen ratings for the season.

2. Sign / spread petitions This one has almost 7,500 signatures as of this writing; while small petitions are not necessarily something that is eye-grabbing, they can be if you start to really get some significant attention. This one needs to get into the tens of thousands, and it is well on its way in a short period of time.

3. Tweet and contact potential new homes – Our suggestion for now is to tweet positive comments (i.e. don’t harass them!) to Amazon, AMC, Starz, Yahoo Screen, Netflix, and other potential suitors expressing your interest in the show. If enough real people do so (meaning that hundreds of people with Twitter eggs as background images won’t do anything), someone will take notice. We still feel like Amazon is the most likely home, since they have the streaming rights already. Yahoo Screen is our darkhorse given that they did pick up “Community.” Starz is already working with Bryan Fuller on “American Gods.”
