‘American Crime’ season 2 spoilers: Regina King officially returning

We knew that both Timothy Hutton and Felicity Huffman were going to return for the second season of ABC’s “American Crime,” but we are very pleased today to report some other great news: They will be joined by none other than Regina King.

There is no word yet on who the “Southland” alum will be playing in her second go-around on the show, but for the time being let’s just express how gleeful we are to see more of her. She is a tremendous actress, and we still feel that this show has a chance to be even more compelling than it was during its critically-acclaimed first season.

In a statement, executive producer John Ridley had the following to say about getting King on board:

“Michael McDonald and I couldn’t be more excited to have Regina back for season two of American Crime … She’s phenomenal in all regards, and is going to be at the center of a story that deals with physicality, sexuality and societal boundaries with the same urgency as our first season dealt with race and faith. We’ve been blessed with the opportunity to speak on subjects as no other show does, and a cast which can do so with such a high degree of emotional honesty.”

Unfortunately, you are still going to be waiting until later this year to learn its return date; more than likely, “American Crime” will not be back until 2016.
