‘Home Fires’ season 2: Premiere date speculation, what we’d like to see

Home Fires -Tonight, ITV will be airing the finale of “Home Fires” season 1, but have no fear in regards to the series’ future: It is officially coming back for more! The network announced earlier this month that the Samantha Bond series will return for another season after drawing some of the network’s best ratings this year, save for maybe “Britain’s Got Talent” and sporting events.

So when will the series return? Most likely, it will be back around the same time in 2016. When you have something that you know for certain works in a given time period, why in the world would you want to move it? That just does not seem like something that makes a whole lot of sense. Springtime works well for the show, and it also suits its aesthetic.

Now that we’ve said all of that, there are two things in particular that we’d like to see a little more of in the second season.

1. More episodes – Given that “Downton Abbey” does eight episodes plus a Christmas Special, couldn’t we at least get this series up to eight? This is a perfect number to us for a British drama, since six at times doesn’t give us enough time for a proper build. It’s worked decently this season, but we’d be even more invested this time with those two extra episodes.

2. A few more lighthearted moments – We know that this is a show set at a time of war, but we feel like there is room in here to balance out some of the darker storylines (Jack’s tragedy, Pat’s situation) with some humor elsewhere. This is something that we feel both “Downton” and “Call the Midwife” do effectively, and the tone here is not too different.
