‘Shadowhunters’ spoilers: ‘Degrassi’ actress set to play Camille Belcourt
To date, we’re not sure that ABC Family has seen a show in its arsenal at all like “Shadowhunters.” While “Pretty Little Liars” was a hit almost overnight, we would not say that before it premiered it was getting the same buzz as this adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series.
For example, we are hearing some more news in regards to one of the latest characters … even though we are still talking here about a series that is not going to be premiering until at some point in 2016. According to TVLine, Kaitlyn Leen of “Degrassi” fame has been booked to play Camille Belcourt, the leader of the New York vampire clan in the series. It’s a meaty role, and one of many that could get a lot of attention on the show.
We’re not a book reader, but we know that the lead of the series is Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara), who discovers on her 18th birthday that she is actually an angel / human hybrid who is meant to help protect the world from all sorts of evi. It feels very much like this is the sort of thing that will translate well onto TV, but we’ll just have to see when it airs ultimately.
All we know is that, for now, this is a part of one of the most ambitious things that ABC Family has ever produced as a network, and we do hope that it works out and continues to be interesting for several years. Expectations are going to be high, both creatively as well as commercially.
