‘Power’ season 3 official; Starz renews Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson series after ratings record

We knew almost from the moment that the “Power” season 2 premiere ratings were in that there was going to be another announcement coming up in the near future. After all, how couldn’t there be? The numbers for that episode were the best for any season premiere ever on Starz (at least in terms of live total viewers), so it made sense for the network to not hesitate on issuing a renewal. Granted, this is something that they tend to do rather quickly for many of their shows to begin with, as it allows more time for production and ensuring that the best show possible is made.

“Power” will most likely air its just-announced third season in 2016, though a specific time window for it is not entirely clear just yet. One thing the network is going to have to figure out next year is that with “Outlander” airing 13 episodes at once versus two bunches of eight, some other shows are going to be thrown around. The Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson series could be one of them. However, at the same time you don’t want to mess much with a show that is doing well.

There are a number of reasons for the success of “Power” so far, but we’d say that a compelling story is at the top of the list, along with a continued demand for more diverse storytelling on TV, especially when it comes to premium cable.

Above all else, take this as yet another reminder that “Power” is very much a series on the upswing, and we’re going to have a whole lot more news to share when it comes to it in the near future. Stay tuned.
