‘Girls’ season 5 spoilers: Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu to guest star

Is this one of the odder guest-castings we’ve seen in some time? If nothing else, it has the potential to be very meta.

According to a new report from TVLine, Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu of “Elementary” fame are going to be guest-starring on at least one upcoming episode of “Girls” season 5, and they may actually be playing heightened versions of themselves. Given that this show does not often do stunt casting, what in the world is the purpose of this? We imagine that, in part, this could be tied to some real-life circumstances. “Elementary” and “Girls” film at the same studio in Long Island City, which means that the two casts may have already bonded just from seeing other around. Therefore, this may make a little more sense than it first appears to on the surface.

We, for one, are going to be thrilled with seeing Miller virtually at any opportunity possible. We still love him dating back from “Hackers,” and we still don’t think that he gets enough credit that he deserves for playing Jordan Chase over the course of “Dexter” season 5.

As for “Girls” season 5, we anticipate that the show will return with new episodes early next year. We imagine that the show is probably more than halfway through its overall run now, so it will be interesting to see ultimately just how many more stories that there are still to tell here.
