2015 Emmy announcement delayed; Uzo Aduba, John Stamos to announce nominees

Emmys -We have wondered for many years now why in the world the Television Academy liked to torment people when it comes to the start time of its nominations. We’ve never understood the need to announce them so early in the morning; maybe it stems from the old days when it took time for news to travel, but these days it’s mostly known for forcing people on the West Coast to wake up around 5:30 in the morning to see what happens. Sure, it’s a total first-world problem, but still.

Anyhow, the TV Academy has now confirmed that for the new ceremony on July 16, the nominations will be announced three hours later at 11:30 a.m. Eastern (8:30 Pacific), and will be brought to us courtesy of “Orange Is the New Black” and also John Stamos, star of the upcoming “Grandfathered.” In a statement per THR, they explained the move with the following:

“Because of the speed in today’s 24/7 viral news cycle we all receive news and information in real time from multiple media sources and on various platforms … The Academy believes this new time — one that saves everyone getting up so early in the morning for the nominations ceremony — reflects this sensibility and is a forward-looking and effective way to kick off the Emmy season.”

While you can read all of our specific Emmy previews and spotlights here, for the time being it appears that “Transparent,” “Empire,” and “Mad Men” in its final season are all shows to watch. “The Affair” has seen its buzz quieted since the Golden Globes, and “The Americans” remains a darkhorse contender, albeit hurt slightly by its lower ratings than many other potential nominees.
