‘Game of Thrones’ season 5, episode 10 (finale) spoilers: What’s next for Davos?

Take a look -While everyone may want to focus some of their “Game of Thrones” office conversations today on Dany and Drogon, let’s be honest: Most everyone is really still talking about Stannis. (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)

While the majority of the Dany storyline comes right out of the George R.R. Martin books and fans have been looking forward to it, we’re talking about something completely different when it comes to Stannis’ decision to sacrifice his daughter Shireen to the Lord of Light, hoping for some sort of powerful advantage in the battle for the Iron Throne. This was a stunning, heartbreaking move, and it produced to us what may be the hardest scene that we’ve had to watch on the show (it’s at least up there with Sansa from earlier this season).

How is Davos going to react to all of this, and how much did he really know about the plan with Stannis? These are both questions that we had coming out of the episode, and actor Liam Cunningham explains them at least in part in a new interview with the New York Times:

“[Davos’] loyalty and decency gets him in trouble again. He wanted to take the queen and the princess away because a battle was about to ensue. So he is quite confused about it. Stannis is getting him out of the way because he knows he’s about to do the wrong thing. He doesn’t want to be looking in Davos’s eyes when he tries to do it, because he won’t be able to go through with it. I do not find out what actually happens to Shireen until the final episode.”

So take this as a sign that Davos will eventually figure out what happened, and in addition to that, we feel like this is proof enough that Davos did not know exactly what was going to happen to Shireen. Maybe he realized that something terrible was going to happen, even if he did not know precisely what it was.
