While “Falling Skies” has been as a series a little bit scattered, for the most part it has always revolved around one thing: Whether or not a group of humans could survive against insurmountable odds after a massive invasion of their planet. Many have tied, and the 2nd Mass has perhaps fought harder than any other group of humans out there.
We are almost now to the 11th hour, where we will finally learn whether or not Tom and company get out of this alive. For the time being, nothing is guaranteed … but we are still hopeful. Speaking to TVLine, star Noah Wyle talks a little bit about some of the stories that could be coming up on the show, but at the same time also makes it at least fairly clear that this story will not be without a little bit of devastation:
“We tried to answer all the questions, to unravel all the mythology, and make it as satisfying an ending for the audience as it was for [the cast] to get our own sense of closure … [However,] we thin the herd along the way. Not everybody makes it to the finish line.”
The end of “Falling Skies” to us will be a pretty sad affair, mostly because there are few science fiction series out there that we would consider to be this ambitious. It is our hope here for the most part that the show combines perfectly action with strong character moments, and at least gives us an ending that feels like the journey was worth it. You’re not going to please everyone, but we at least hope that the show does not choose to close things off in a depressing manner.
