‘Fear the Walking Dead’ spoilers: Robert Kirkman talks playing around with setting

Fear -To this point, AMC has not exactly been too liberal when it comes to sharing teasers for “Fear the Walking Dead.” There has only real been one major promo released by the network, and other than that the show is still keeping a pretty tight lid on things.

This is why we’re grateful to have any scoop that we can get, even when said scoop is really more thematic than it is anything tied into the story. This is what we have now from the show’s own executive producer Robert Kirkman, who spoke recently to Entertainment Weekly about how the setting of the show in Los Angeles (technically, the show is filming for the most part in Vancouver) is going to play a very big role in how the story is told. This is something that is not possibly in the same way in the flagship series, which is mostly set in Atlanta:

“Los Angeles is such an interesting city in and of itself, just because of the vast melting pot of diversity that California has become … The urban sprawl—it covers a tremendous amount of land, and it’s got an extremely dense population, so there are a lot of things about that that lend itself well to good storytelling in the zombie apocalypse. But also, this is a city where a vast number of people come to the city to reinvent themselves, or they’re new to the city for various different reasons. It’s almost a city of immigrants inside a country of immigrants. So there’s definitely some aspects of that we’ll also be playing with as well.”

By the time we make it to the end of the first season, maybe we will get a little bit of a better sense of how this will look on the show. We know that there are chances for this new show to be very good, but at the same time there is a huge obstacle in trying to find new avenues that have not been explored already by the original series.
