‘Major Crimes’ season 4 spoilers: On Rusty’s Philip Stroh dilemma

Major Crimes -Philip Stroh is certainly a dangerous man, and there was a time during the third season of “Major Crimes” that it felt like the serial rapist was going to be put away for good. However, he escaped by the end of the season 3 finale, and he is somewhere out there, lurking and potentially ready to go after future victims.

So how is Sharon and potentially Rusty going to handle this situation? The knowledge the latter has as a material witness is one of Stroh’s biggest threats at the moment, and it would be understandable if he were to try and hide out, or live in fear that something was going to happen to him. However, executive producer James Duff makes it clear to TV Guide that this is not the way the show wants to handle this story moving into the first episode of season 4 Monday night:

“The question becomes: Do you want to live your life in fear of death or do you want to face the fear of death and live your life in hope? … That goes to the theme this season, which is courage. It’s important that Rusty steps out of the protected environment of the condo and the police department and into college. His choice is to live his life as if that threat does not exist, and it’s a challenge to his mother to accept that paradigm that he’s built for himself.”

We do have a sense that there will be more story worth telling when it comes to Stroh at some point in the future, but it does not appear that will be anytime too soon.
