‘Rush Hour’: ‘Psych’ creator in as showrunner for CBS remake
For a while, we wondered if there was anything that CBS could do to really get us interest in their upcoming remake of “Rush Hour.” While we enjoyed two of the movies for the most part, that was a long time ago, and one of the only reasons we felt like they worked was because Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker had the right sense of humor about the whole experience. How will that adapt to television?
Well, we now have a little bit of a reason to have hope, given that the series from Bill Lawrence has now hired “Psych” creator Steve Franks to serve as showrunner. This is a guy who already knows how to mix crime-solving and comedy effectively, as well as feature two very different characters in leading roles. We’re really not sure that there was a better-qualified showrunner out there than him for the job.
Hopefully, Franks’ hire also means that we could get a “Psych” cameo or two at some point over the show’s run, even if we know that some of the stars are pretty busy right now. Maggie Lawson is also on CBS with her new series “Angel From Hell,” while Timothy Omundson is starring in “Galavant” over on ABC.
Jon Foo and Justin Hires are the two leads replacing Chan and Tucker in the series, and the premise is going to be more or less the same thing. The series should premiere at some point this midseason. We will have some other news on the series as it starts to be made known.
