While Brian Williams has been almost completely silent the past few months, there are still rumblings within NBC apparently regarding his future … and it could surprisingly include him staying put for a while.
According to CNN, the network has held many meetings and discussions, and there is some talk already that they may look to keep Williams aboard in some role. After all, he is still under contract for many years, and there may be some value in his research skills and some of his connections. The real question at the moment, though, is whether or not they would let him on-camera again after he embellished aspects of past stories regarding some of his time in the Middle East.
If they bring Williams on the air, even as a part of a slow build or something of the variety, they run the risk of him still not having the trust of viewers. This is a little easier to come back from when you are a tabloid than when your job is to report the facts on an evening news broadcast. With that said, the first TV appearance from Brian on NBC would likely draw huge ratings, even if it is not entirely clear just how much attention he would draw after that.
While it still seems ultimately like the most likely scenario for Williams is saying goodbye to NBC, let’s just stay that there are still a wide array of possibilities out there. Stay tuned for more on the subject.
