‘Outlander’ season 2 spoilers: On Caitriona Balfe’s Claire, Sam Heughan’s Jamie, and France

OutlanderTimes are changing on Starz’s “Outlander,” and we’re not just talking about the fact that the series revolves in some ways around time-travel. The first season of the drama ended on the network Saturday with Jamie and Claire Fraser departing Scotland after having escaped the clutches of Black Jack Randall, and are now off to a very new world in France. Dragonfly in Amber will be the inspiration for the second season of the series, and while there will certainly be changes, there are many things that will stay the same from book to screen.

Of course, the cast and crew are still very much in the early stages of filming season 2, and it will be a little while ultimately there is a wide array of details known about what to expect. For the time being, though, we can at least give you a fairly in-depth quote via TVLine from executive producer Ronald D. Moore, who does his best to lay the foundation for what lies in the future:

“They’re going to Paris, and they’re going to be dealing with the French aristocracy. So you’re already in a completely different planet than where we were with Season 1. Scotland is about heavy stone, rough wood, dark tabletops, smoke and candlelit rooms, and now you’re in world of gilt, fine China, glassware and costumes that are made of silks and bright colors.

“It’s going to be a whole different tone, a whole different…playing the story as much more political. We’re dealing with the Jacobite Rebellion. It’s much more about deception, and lies within lies, and the gossips and the surroundings of Paris. And dinner parties, and going to the court of Louis the XV … [Plus], she’s pregnant, and he’s got the aftermath of Jack Randall.”

As for what sort of role Tobias Menzies could continue to have on the show, the only thing that we can really say at the moment is that Frank Randall is still out there. So long as he is a component of the show’s present / future, we will continue to speculate as to where and when he will turn up again.
