‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: George Clooney goofs around on idea of ‘returning’
Despite what some of the tabloids may have tried to tell you in the fall, George Clooney never technically appeared on “Downton Abbey” season 5. Instead, he was merely a part of a silly little sketch featuring many of the cast in character to raise money during a charity program. It was still a very kind thing for the one-time star of “ER” to do, and much of it may tie back to his relationship with star Hugh Bonneville, who he worked with previously on “The Monuments Men.”
So is it possible that Clooney could actually appear on the sixth and final season of the ITV series in a real role? We definitely would not count on it, based mostly on what the actor is now saying himself. Speaking in a new interview on Good Morning Britain, the actor took advantage of an opportunity to both poke fun at himself and “Batman & Robin” while answering a question:
“[I] think since I nearly destroyed the Batman franchise, I could hurt that series really badly if I come back to that … Truth is we did a three-parter and they cut me out. Hugh [Bonneville] told me not to come back.”
Obviously Clooney is joking, but the reality here for “Downton Abbey” is mostly still that the series really does need him or any other superstar to boost ratings. As a matter of fact, the show would most likely deem someone famous stopping by a distraction, since it takes you out of the world that has been created.
