‘Outlander’ season 2: Premiere date theories, more for Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, cast

OutlanderTonight, “Outlander” season 1 finally comes to a close with what could end up being a fast-paced and hopefully-surprising finale. However, and as many book fans know already, this is far from the end of the story. The show was renewed for a second season last year during the run of the first eight episodes, and we’ve had that assurance this entire spring while we have gotten through the remaining installments.

First and foremost, let’s get to filming. Production on season 2 is happening in Scotland, and the cast and crew are doing everything that they can in order to produce the best content possible. Sam Heughan himself told us earlier this year, before the final eight episodes started to air, that he was in pre-production. There are 13 episodes in the second season, and with that we would be surprised if Starz opts to do another split season similar to what we had this spring.

As for when the show could end up premiering, we imagine that patience may be a virtue yet again. Our guess would be that you will have to wait until spring of next year, following the conclusion of “Black Sails.” It took the show over a year to have the first 16 episodes ready, and we’d rather all parties involved take their time to ensure that the show is of the highest possible quality.

We imagine that later tonight, we’ll have more scoop coming in terms of the story … though we have heard that Frank Randall should make more of a presence there than he did in these most-recent episodes.
