‘Chicago Med’ spoilers: ‘Arrow’ alum Colin Donnell joins ‘Chicago Fire’ spin-off

“Chicago Med” is not going to be premiering until midseason, and with that in mind, we certainly expect it to take a little bit of time before we start to get a full sense as to the entire cast, and also some of the specific stories that are being planned out.

What we can at least tell you for now is fairly simple: Colin Donnell is officially coming aboard! Per a report from Deadline, the actor, best known for playing Tommy on “Arrow” and a stint on Showtime’s “The Affair,” is going to be a series regular, presumably in the role of a doctor. Details are still unclear, so expect to see a few things potentially change before the show actually comes on the air.

This same report also makes it clear that Donnell is an actor who was in demand for show executive producer Dick Wolf for quite a long time. He was looked at for potential roles both on “Chicago Fire” and the original spin-off “Chicago PD.” He also recently had a part on another NBC Wednesday night show in “The Mysteries of Laura.”

Given that we love Donnell’s work, we’re now a little more excited about this spin-off than we were previously. Our primary concern here remains the same, and that is figuring out how in the world there can continue to be so many different medical shows on the air, and some of them can still stand out. This fall has of course “Grey’s Anatomy,” but also new NBC series “Heartbreaker” and “Code Black” over on CBS.
