Lifetime finally airs Nicole Kidman’s ‘Grace of Monaco’ Monday night

Lifetime -There are a few things that are almost completely unexpected in the world of television. Having a Nicole Kidman movie make its way to the medium has to be one of them. “Grace of Monaco” was a picture originally destined to hit movie theaters after premiering at Cannes. However, it has since fallen and fallen due to bad reviews, and it is now heading to Lifetime for its premiere on Monday night. It is the biopic of Grace Kelly (Kidnam), the famed actress who traded in a career in Hollywood to become Princess of Monaco. On the surface, this is an excellent idea for a movie given that it mixes two worlds that are often severely glamorized.

So why didn’t this work as a theatrical release? There are a variety of different reasons, and we’re not exactly holding out for it being of the utmost quality tonight. We do believe, though, that it probably has little to do with Kidman, a woman who has received a great deal of awards recognition for her work over the years. She can play sophisticated very well, and we imagine that this was probably a role that really fascinated her the moment that it was offered to her.

What we are perhaps the most interested in knowing at the moment is an answer to a strictly commercial question: How in the world will this fare once it actually ends up on the network? Will it be a ratings smash? We feel like there may be a mistake there airing it against “The Bachelorette.” It had the potential to be a real smash for the network on another night potentially, but we see these two sharing an audience.

Anyhow, reviews out there for this are more than tepid. Watch either out of curiosity, or at your own risk.
