‘Survivor: Second Chance’ spotlight: Why Woo Hwang is worthy of your vote
Woo Hwang Is one of those “Survivor” players who you really do like in some ways, and then he drives you up the wall in others. He’s such a down-to-earth, likable guy who really seemed to just embrace the experience of being out there the first time around. however, he was far from a strategic mastermind. His decision to take Tony to the end over Kass potentially cost him $900,000, and nobody in his life has probably allowed him to forget this.
Now, we’re at “Survivor: Second Chance.” This is Woo’s shot at redemption! Maybe he does go out and try to play the same loyal game, or who knows? Maybe he goes all ninja stealth mode on us with his strategy and does something completely different. We get that not everyone may want to see him back, but we’re curious over what he could do.
Past experience – “Survivor: Cagayan” (2nd place)
Why you should vote for him – Would Woo play the same game again? The first time that we saw him on the show, his calling card was mostly that he was this extremely loyal guy who was very likable, but somewhat naive strategically and at times oblivious to the game’s sometimes-seedy underbelly. He’s had a good year to look back on that, and then potentially change a few things up if he wanted to. Also, there is something to be said for having an array of different kinds of players out there. You don’t want every person to be exactly the same.
Why you wouldn’t vote for him – You already have people who you know are going to be competitive strategically, so why get rid of a sure thing for a risk? Some other arguments you could make here include that there are three near-locks from Cagayan already (in Spencer, Tasha, and Kass), and throwing in Woo may make the recency bias too strong.
Our prediction – There’s a 50/50 chance for Woo. We feel like casual viewers will remember him and want to see if he learned from the Tony debacle at the final three. Meanwhile, strategy fans are voting elsewhere. We’ve debated this a ton, as well; Woo’s a nice guy, but he could be eaten alive out there. We’ve given him a few votes, but not as many as many of the other guys we consider to be favorites.

Nah, Woo didn’t really have any passion for the game or any particular excitement at any time. I don’t think we need a passive drifter for this season.
