‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 7 review (PBS): Pains of being switched at birth

Call the Midwife -Did you see this story coming on “Call the Midwife“? While isolated plotlines have been in the fabric of the entire season, tonight’s episode contained one of the most emotional ones that we’ve seen to date, as two sets of parents struggled with the fact that their children were switched around at birth, and they have formed already a deep emotional bond to them. (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)

Yes, there is of course the notion of blame, and we saw tonight one Sister take the revelation of what she did particularly hard. With that being said, though, this story was about so much more than pointing a finger at someone. It’s about a story and a message that may carry through about unconditional love to where we are in the modern day. There is always a place in your heart to care for someone else, and there can at times be a shoulder to lie on while you go through the process.

Ultimately, though, we still imagine the revelation that your real child is in need of serious medical care is a devastation situation, and that is what we saw in here at some point.

This switched-at-birth story was ultimately not the only one in this hour with modern themes. We are still getting more of that when it comes to the Patsy – Delia relationship, who are having to hide their relationship in a way that nobody would be forced to in the present.
