Ratings: ‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 6, ‘Amazing Race’ renewal odds not helped by latest numbers

Hawaii -If “Hawaii Five-0” wants a season 6 or if “The Amazing Race” wants to get yet another chance at better ratings, their performance on Friday nights certainly did not do them any favors at all.

Let’s start with the crime series, given that it was airing its finale and therefore at least had greater expectations to do something magnificent. Instead of drawing huge numbers, though, all the show managed was a measly 1.1 and 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic for its two hours. It is still possible that a renewal will happen, but we’re not extremely optimistic given that the show has already reached syndication and isn’t the same critical hit like “The Good Wife” and doesn’t have the same Emmy love as “The Amazing Race.”

The awards recognition may be the only thing saving the reality show, if it does come back after getting a 1.0 rating last night. The thing that it probably does still have going for it above all else, though, is the mere recognition that it can always come back down the line. It’s like “The Apprentice” or “The Mole” in that it can go away and then return, since there is a new story and a new cast every single season. While we love the show and could watch it every week year-round, maybe it would benefit from becoming a midseason replacement with only one season a year, or taking a year or two off so that casual fans come to miss it again.

“Blue Bloods” did not air on CBS last night (its season is complete), but we’re probably the most confident about its return out of any of the Friday-night shows.
